Praise & Worship
Praise & Worship
Praise and worship music has always been more than just a sound—it’s been the soul of the African American experience. From the spirituals sung in the fields to the powerful gospel choirs that fill our churches today, this music tells our story. It’s the rhythm of resilience, the language of hope, and the heartbeat of a people who found freedom in their faith.
What began as songs of survival became songs of celebration. As generations evolved, so did the sound; shifting from hymns and traditional gospel to contemporary worship that blends R&B, soul, and even hip-hop influences. Yet the message remains the same: God is worthy of praise.
Every clap, every harmony, every cry of “Hallelujah” carries the legacy of those who came before us. This is more than music—it’s ministry, movement, and memory all wrapped in worship.
Each month, I’ll be sharing a new song(s) of praise and worship; handpicked to uplift your spirit, strengthen your faith, and remind us of God’s presence in every season.
Come back each month for a fresh dose of inspiration, reflection, and worship. You might just find your new favorite praise anthem.
His Eye is on the Sparrow
The Mississippi Children's Choir
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for my heavenly home
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
